Gay Desis: Out of the Closet [Jan. 25th, 2005|01:20 pm]

"Richna Singh, a 20 year old college student who enjoys reading, writing, and partying. She’s also bisexual and has a crush on Angelina Jolie.

Vikrant Lal (part of the Mathur family) is a 24 year old food technologist and Rutgers graduate. He loves photography, art, and music. He has no fashion sense, but he’s still gay.

By the way, their names are real. Both Richna and Vikrant are desi.

Despite living in the epitome of a modern western country, desi culture in the U.S. has been slow to accept the coming out of many South Asian homosexuals. In the past, the forced silence has led many to forgo coming out and opt for unhappy marriages instead, but the newer generation has been less silent and more proactive about their identity."
